Employees find Japanese World War II grenade while sorting through Goodwill donations

PORT ORCHARD -- Goodwill employees sorting through piles of donations found an unexpected and unwelcome weapon Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to the Port Orchard Police Department, employees called officers around 1:15 p.m. to say they had found a hand grenade in a box of donations. Police were called to the scene, and they evacuated the store.

A bomb squad was called in to investigate.

Port Orchard police said later that it was a Type 10 Japanese World War II grenade that they believe is still live.

The grenade was removed and the store was reopened.
