Seattle Sounders FC player named MLS Player of the Week

SEATTLE -- Star Sounders FC forward, Obafemi Martins, has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week!

Martins showed up big as Seattle took on New York City FC Sunday. He was involved in all three goals, recording his first brace of the season and adding a secondary assist to Clint Dempsey's 58th minute game-winning goal. He also opened the scoring for the Sounders in the 23rd minute, slipping past a back line and powering past defenders.

Martins now has six goals on the season, leading the MLS, and 31 goals in his career. He is second only on the all-time scorers list for the Sounders, trailing only Fredy Montero's 47 goals.

Sounders return to action Saturday against the Columbus Crew SC. That game will be broadcast at 4:30 p.m. on Q13 FOX.
