Police spot cougar near Lake Washington

RENTON -- A Renton police officer spotted a cougar near a fairly populated area off Lake Washington Monday.

Renton police tweeted that a cougar was spotted in the 2100 block of Lake Washington Boulevard around 12 p.m. It was not aggressive, and slinked back into the woods as soon as it was noticed, police said.

Cougar sightings in south King County are rare. The last reported sighting in Renton, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, occurred in 2009.
