OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Court records show Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley, who is under federal indictment for tax evasion and obstructing investigators, has surrendered his passport to authorities.

Federal court records show Kelley surrendered his passport Wednesday. Under bail conditions set at the time of his April 16 indictment, Kelley had been allowed to keep his passport so he could go on a previously-scheduled overseas to serve his National Guard duty. Kelley’s trip has been postponed.

Prosecutors did not immediately respond to a call for comment about why his passport was surrendered.

In the indictment, authorities alleged misdeeds by Kelley in connection with a mortgage title services companies he previously ran. Authorities say Kelley kept more than $1 million that should have been refunded to customers and he unlawfully avoided paying taxes.

Kelley has said he is innocent and would fight the charges.
