King County sheriff's K9 killed after being hit by truck

TUKWILA, Wash. – A King County Sheriff’s Office K9 was killed early Saturday when he ran from his handler and was hit by a semi truck.

The impact happened at around 1 a.m. KCSO spokesperson Sgt. BJ Myers said that the K9, Jimmy, was hit after getting through a hole in a chain link fence separating Cecil Moses Memorial Park, where he and his partner were doing routine nighttime exercises, and Highway 99. No police work was being done at the time.

The K9 then ran onto the highway, where he was hit. The truck continued on, but Myers said it isn’t known if the driver even knew what happened.

Jimmy, a 2-year-old German Shephard, had been with the Sheriff’s Office since November.
