Deputies: Man threatened girlfriend with crossbow, planned to bomb neighborhood

WENATCHEE, Wash. -- A man who threatened to shoot his girlfriend with a crossbow if she tried to leave also had a bomb inside his home, according to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

The victim contacted a Washington State Patrol on Highway 97 near the Highway 2 junction at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The victim told deputies she had been assaulted several times in the past few days be her 47-year-old boyfriend. She told deputies her boyfriend refused to let her leave after the assault, but when he left for the store she climbed out a 2nd story window onto the roof and dropped onto the ground.

Deputies were not able to find the suspect when they arrived at the 3000 block of Allen Lane in Valley-Hi, but they noticed locks on the outside of the doors intended to keep the victim from leaving the home.

The woman told deputies she tried to kick open the door to escape during a six-day period she was being held against her will.

The next day, deputies tried again to locate the suspect. He was reportedly in the shower at the time, and deputies were able to take him into custody without incident.

The victim told investigators her boyfriend threatened her if she tried to leave saying he would "shoot her in the temple with it and she would be dead."

Deputies found a crossbow loaded and ready to shoot a large nail.

The woman told deputies he also had a bomb in the home he planned to set off in his neighbor's yard that night that was so powerful it could "blow up the whole block and then some."

Authorities called the bomb squad from the Army base in Yakima to respond. They obtained a search warrant, located the bomb, and detonated it in a safe area. Samples were taken for further testing.

The suspect faces a multitude of charges including Unlawful Imprisonment D.V., Assault 4th D.V., 2 Counts of Harassment - Threats to Kill D.V., 4 counts of Rape D.V., Animal Cruelty 2nd Degree D.V. , Assault 2nd Degree D.V., Reckless Endangerment D.V., and Malicious Mischief 3rd Degree D.V.  Pending positive identification of the bomb, additional charges would be added.  He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.
