Overnight barn fire kills miniature horse, alpacas

DUVALL -- A barn fire early Monday morning in Duvall killed an unknown number of chickens, alpacas and a miniature horse.

Fire officials got a call around 2:30 a.m. for a structure fire at a barn in in the 12500 block of 318th Avenue NE. When crews arrived at the scene, they found the barn fully involved, and part of the roof had collapsed. Officials woke up the homeowners, and worked to get animals out of the barn.

Fire officials said they were able to save five horses, with one suffering burns. Three alpacas, a miniature horse, some chickens and rabbits were killed in the blaze. The barn appeared to be a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire officials are investigating.
