Dedicated rescuers spend hours earning stray dog's trust, now hope to find owners

CARBONADO, Wash. -- PETA is recognizing two women from Enumclaw for an elaborate rescue of a stray dog -- and now they hope to reunite the dog with its owners.

It happened last week after Amanda Guarascio and Dylan Parkinson received a text message about 'Baby Bear.'

The dog had been seen roaming the Evans Creek Area near Carbonado for a couple of months. It took planning and patience, even laying down on the ground in the snow to gain the dog's trust, but the two were eventually able to get a leash on the stray.

The rescue lasted six hours.

Parkinson says 'Baby Bear' went from being a malnourished, jittery pup to an active healthy dog in just a week.

"He eventually, after four hours, he let her lay with him and cuddle for a second. She was able to get a leash on him," said Parkinson. "He's doing amazing. He is really, really warming up. He's really coming out of his shell."

'Baby Bear' is in foster care right now, but two women who own a lost-and-found dog website are doing everything they can to reunite the dog with his owners.
