SEATTLE — Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett on Thursday reacted publicly for the first time to a report he was seeking a trade to the Atlanta Falcons.

“No, I never asked for, I didn’t come to them and ask for a trade,” Bennett said on 710am ESPN’s “Justin and Gee” radio show Thursday morning.

Sports writer Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote last month that Bennett was seeking a trade to the Atlanta Falcons and a new contract.

“I’m still trying to figure out how a guy from Dallas made up a story about me,” Bennett said. “I’m living in Seattle and it’s like, ‘How does this happen?’”

On top of that, Bennett said, he was surfing in Hawaii with his children at the time the report surfaced.

“They made rumors about Jesus, they make rumors about anybody,” Bennett said.

“I love the fans here. Best fans in Seattle. There’s no fans like in Seattle.”

Bennett was also asked about new Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham, because in 2013 Bennett called the then-Saints player “overrated” and “soft.”

“I feel the same way,” Bennett said, but added, “When he comes to our team, he’s part of our team. I don’t feel as harsh as I did at the time.”
