Road rage contributed to fatal 3-car crash on I-5, WSP says

SEATTLE — Road rage may have contributed to a crash that killed a 23-year-old woman from Centralia and injured three other people late Wednesday night on southbound Interstate 5, the Washington State Patrol said.

Around 10:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man driving a black 2010 Chevrolet HHR south on Interstate 5 near Boeing Field suddenly slowed his car, and was hit by a 2004 Dodge Neon. The 21-year-old driver of Dodge Neon stopped in the roadway and was hit by a 34-year-old man driving a 2006 Infiniti G35, Washington State Patrol said.

A 23-year-old passenger in the Neon, Andrea Dickey, was killed in the crash.

Three other people were hurt, and at least two people had to be extricated from the vehicles involved in the crash. Those injured were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The Washington State Patrol tweeted just before midnight that a possible DUI may have led to the collision. Following an investigation, troopers said road rage contributed to the crash, as well.

Charges of DUI and vehicular homicide are pending, officials said.

Interstate 5 near Boeing Field was blocked for more than four hours following the crash.
