Everett may limit alcohol sales

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The Everett City Council is weighing whether to establish areas where the sale of certain cheap, high-alcohol content beverages would be prohibited.

The Everett Police Department says cities like Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia and Spokane have implemented such alcohol impact areas. The areas that would be covered under Everett's proposal include most of downtown.

Mayor Ray Stephanson says the proposed ordinance is part of a broader legislative push to improve the city.

The alcohol impact area ordinance is scheduled for a council vote on April 15.
