Leo Cruz-Amado: Man deported for trying to kill wife once makes violent return to try again

WANTED IN SKAGIT COUNTY -- A mother in Skagit County is in hiding and scared for her life and the lives of her children after the man who tried to kill her once -- returned. Leo Cruz-Amado’s real first name is ‘Simon’ and he also goes by his middle name ‘Gerardo’ but Skagit County detectives say ‘Leo’ is the name he uses there. He was deported back to Mexico years ago after being convicted of trying to stab his pregnant wife, but now he's back and this time detectives say when he went at her with a knife as she tried to escape -- he didn't miss. "He followed her outside and at some point outside near the van she was trying to get into she was stabbed multiple times, up to seven times, anywhere from her shoulders, arms and her stomach,” says Skagit County Chief Chad Clark. “At that time she screamed, neighbors came out to see what was going on, the older son that was inside the house came outside to see what was wrong with his mom, noticed she was bleeding from her stomach and saw his dad running from behind the house. He chased after him for a minute. It was dark, he didn't have a flashlight, he was worried, he knew his dad was highly intoxicated and had a knife at that time so he quit following him." Detectives say Cruz-Amado is a heavy drinker and also has family in the San Diego area. He's 44 years old, 5’5”, 130 pounds and blind in his left eye.
