PARKLAND, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for answers in Monday night’s vicious murder of a man who was driving his car not far from his home.

Cindy Mosley can’t believe her 20 year-old son, Daniel, is gone.

“I don’t think I could have, even in my worst nightmare, entertained what it might feel like to find out that your son has been brutally murdered,” she said.

On Monday night, witnesses watched in horror as a gunman in a white, 4-door Lexus drove up alongside Daniel’s car and shot him in the head. Daniel lost control of his car, which crashed into parked cars along Ainsworth Avenue South and flipped.

He was dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office says Daniel had no criminal record and was a popular young man with a seemingly bright future. No motive for the shooting has been established.

Daniel and his longtime girlfriend, Mandy Rhodes, were just planning their lives together.

"I went up to his mom and I looked at her and she said, 'He’s gone.' And I just collapsed to the ground. Someone you plan your whole life with, and you see a future with, is just taken from you," Rhodes said.

His family says Daniel was a man of few words. Now, they are speaking out for him. They want his killer caught because the gunman took something special from them.

Daniel's father, Scotty Mosley, said, "They robbed me of my future daughter-in-law and grandkids. I only got one right now and it took me a while to get that one. I love family."

Daniel's family hopes some good can come out of this tragedy.

"What he wanted more than anything," Cindy Mosley said, "was to live in a world, to live in a community, where he felt safe, where he felt people cared about each other."

These days, it doesn’t take much to set-off a road rage event. Too many hot heads on drugs looking for trouble. We hope the police can catch the shooter soon.
