Bomb threat, suspicious item forces evacuation of area high school for second day in a row

FEDERAL WAY -- Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way was released early Thursday for the second day in a row after a suspicious item was found on the campus following a bomb threat, officials said.

Shortly after noon, school officials received a bomb threat emailed directly to the school, Federal Way Public Schools said. Police evacuated the school, officials said, and a suspicious item was found on campus.

Bomb squads were called to the school around 2 p.m. The exact contents of the suspicious items were not yet released, but no incendiary device was found.

This is the second day in a row officials have evacuated the school following a bomb threat and suspicious package found on campus. On April 1, officials released this statement:

This afternoon, a message was found in a bathroom at Todd Beamer High School that claimed an explosive device would go off in the building at 2 p.m. today. Federal Way Police and security searched the school. Out of an abundance of caution, students and staff evacuated the building and students were sent home a few minutes early. All after school activities are cancelled. Parents are being notified through the emergency call out system.

Officials will continue to notify parents of the latest developments via the school's call-out system and the district app.
