Local moms create clothing line to inspire girls

SHORELINE, Washington - Two Seattle area moms are taking the fashion world by storm by creating a clothing line just for girls.

The moms want their girls to be able to wear a dress that is decorated with a dinosaur not just a doll and since they could not fine one at a store, by created one.

The idea came about a few years ago when one of their girls wanted to be an astronaut for Halloween.  When the costume magazine came in the mail, only boys were wearing those costumes for the little girl didn't think she could do that.

So, her mom, Jennifer Muhm and friend Malorie Catchpole started creating.

BuddingSTEM is a clothing line for girls who dream big.

"The girls always get kittens and rainbows and that's all great, but that is not all they love," says Jennifer   all are great…but that is not all she loves," says Muhm.

After just 12 days on Kick Starter, their campaign was funded.

From concept to clothing, the moms are now working with a manufacturer in California to make the leggins, t-shirts and dresses.

"For us, this is about getting our line out there of course, but really pushing the whole children’s market," says Muhm.

They hope to have their retails site up and running this summer and ultimately, they hope to sell in clothing stores.
