Report: Lawyer proposes initiative calling for killing of gays and lesbians

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California – A California lawyer is proposing an initiative that calls for the killing of gays and lesbians.

Matt McLaughlin is proposing the ‘Sodomite Suppression Act’ in which he declares “the people of California wisely command” that gays be punished “by bullets to the head or any other convenient method.”

Despite the fact that the proposal is clearly illegal, NPR News reported that there appears to be no legal way for state officials to stop McLaughlin from collecting enough signatures and qualifying the initiative for the ballot.

More than 365-thousand valid signatures would be needed to get the proposal in the ballot. Experts say that usually costs backers at least $1-million.

Multiple news organizations report reaching out to McLaughlin for comment, but have so far not been granted an interview.
