Portland police officer fatally shoots knife-wielding man

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police in Portland, Oregon, say a knife-wielding man killed by an officer last weekend was originally from Pennsylvania. Officers say the violence began as a neighborhood dispute.

Sgt. Pete Simpson said Monday that 36-year-old Christopher Ryan Healy of Erie, Pennsylvania, was fatally wounded when he advanced on two officers Sunday evening with a 10-inch, double-bladed knife.

Simpson says the man was very close to Officer Thomas Clark when Clark fired two shots, hitting the man.

Healy remained on his feet and police say Officer Royce Curtiss then used a stun gun on him. Healy died at a local hospital.

The two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
