City Council approves expansion of Pike Place Market

SEATTLE -- The City Council approved $34 million Monday for the expansion of Seattle's Pike Place Market.

Construction on the project, which could start as early as May, will add 300 underground parking spaces, more selling booths, expanded walking spaces and better access from the city's waterfront.

It will also include senior housing and a new 12,000-square-foot plaza.

Money will come from the city's general fund, and additional money will be provided by the state and private donations.
