State commission approves toll increases for SR 520, Tacoma Narrows bridges

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Transportation Commission on Tuesday approved toll increases for the SR 520 Bridge and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Starting July 1, the tolls on the 520 Bridge will rise by 2.5% starting July 1. This amounts to an additional 10 cents at peak hours.

The commission decided to raise the Tacoma Narrows tolls by 50 cents this summer and another 50 cents in 2016.

There will now be a public comment period before the next hearing, which is May 20. Meeting dates and times will be released later.

Tolls are collected on the eastbound bridge and currently range from $4.50 to $6.50 for a passenger car, depending on how drivers pay.
