'Sasquatch' man who attacked a hunter in Oregon while naked sentenced to 10 years

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A young Oregon man who was naked when he attacked a hunter on a remote hilltop has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors say 22-year-old Linus Norgren knocked out Jeff McDonald, dislocated both his shoulders, tried to strangle him and dug a thumb into his eye. The victim says Norgren told him that "he was a Sasquatch from a family of Sasquatches."

The young man was sentenced Tuesday.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/I7djfX ) that a Washington County jury rejected Norgren's self-defense claim and found him guilty of attempted murder and second-degree assault.

Norgren told Circuit Judge Thomas Kohl that he didn't mean to hurt the hunter but his bipolar disorder made him feel scared and made him feel that he had to defend himself. The attack happened near Manning, west of Portland.

McDonald asked the judge to consider Norgren's dangerousness. The victim said there is nothing stopping Norgren from similar violent attacks in the future.

MANNING, Ore. (KPTV) -- A naked man who reportedly made a reference to Sasquatch attacked a hunter with a rock in a remote wooded area of Oregon Thursday morning, police said.

Deputies were called to the Manning area north of Banks in unincorporated Washington County at 9 a.m.

They said a naked man attacked the hunter, but the hunter was eventually able to get the upper hand and held the nude suspect at gunpoint until authorities could reach the scene.

The victim said the suspect, identified as Linus Norgren, 20, made a reference to Sasquatch before his violent outburst.

The 58-year-old hunter said Norgren used a rock the size of an apple to hit him on the head multiple times. The victim said the naked man also used a piece of clothing to choke him.

When Norgren stopped the attack, the victim used his hunting rifle to keep the suspect in the area. Deputies said the man had the gun on Norgren when they finally found the scene.

Deputies still don't have a motive for the attack or a reason why Norgren was naked.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then booked in jail on charges of second-degree assault, strangulation and menacing. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

The hunter was taken to the hospital. Deputies did not believe his injuries were life-threatening.
