ARVADA, Colorado — A house outside Denver Colorado that exploded and caught fire early Tuesday morning was spray-painted with the words “My wife is a cheater,” and police tell KDVR-TV a man has been arrested in connection with the arson.

Firefighters responded to the home in the 6800 block of Nelson Street in Arvada about 1:30 a.m. after reports of an explosion.

Crews found a heavy fire and took a defensive strategy, battling it from the outside. All of the occupants were accounted for and there were no reports of injuries.

Debris and patio furniture flew into the front yard and the street as a result of the explosion. The front of the house was spray-painted with the words “My wife is a cheater” in two places. Firefighters later put blue tarps over the graffiti, and police declined comment on whether it was connected to the explosion.

Neighbors say a family with three young children lives in the home.

“It’s a younger family,” Fred Holman said. “They’ve lived here about five years, maybe a little longer. They’re very nice people, very good neighbors. I would never think anything like this would happen.”

The Arvada Police Department announced later Tuesday morning that a male suspect believed to be connected to the arson was in custody.

Fire investigators said the flooring was unstable in the home and it was not safe to go inside. Crews are expected to be on the scene investigating most of the day.
