WSP: Wrong way driver causes State Route 18 crash, 3 hurt

AUBURN - A wrong way driver caused a collision on State Route 18 near Auburn that sent three people to the hospital, late Sunday night.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported that the causing driver, a 37-year-old woman from Puyallup, was reportedly driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR 18 when her car side-swiped an on coming car in the opposite direction. The crash scene on SR 18 was at mile post 8, approximately one mile west of Kent.

The wrong way driver's car then collided head on with a third car, with the second car ending up in a ditch and all lanes of SR 18 closed.

The collision happened around 11:30 p.m. WSP said that alcohol or drugs is a factor in the accident.

The causing driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle; the other two drivers were transported to Valley Medical Center. All three drivers' conditions are not known

SR 18 was reopened to traffic after 3 hours. The Washington State Patrol is continuing to investigate this collision.
