Oregon cat hoarder gets 5 years probation and told: No more cats!

VALE, Ore. (AP) — The owner of a van filled with 68 cats that were malnourished and had only three litter boxes among them has been sentenced in Eastern Oregon to five years of probation.

For 52-year-old Cynthia Allen, that also means five years of no cats or other animals.

The Ontario Argus Observer (http://bit.ly/1DyyyKo) reports she was sentenced last week. She pleaded guilty in January.

When authorities responded to a complaint about her van in November, they found a brutal stench, five cat corpses and some cats that had lost one or both eyes.

Of the 68 survivors, 26 have been adopted and 42 are in shelters in Idaho and Oregon.

Allen was ordered to get a mental health evaluation and pay $11,500 in restitution. Shelter organizers said that won't cover their costs.
