Mother claims 'misunderstanding' to blame for missing infant, child report

SEATTLE -- The mother of a 8-month-old child reported missing by police Monday morning now says the entire episode was one of "misunderstanding."

The police department tweeted about two missing children around 7:40 a.m. Monday, asking area residents to keep an eye out for a baby and a 12-year-old, Amaziah Lynch, last seen in the 14300 block of Lenora Place North.

The young child was found safe with a family friend early Monday, police said. Lynch was found later in Kent.

According to the infant's mother, she left the baby in the care of Lynch late Sunday. Lynch allegedly passed care of the child off to the family friend, who then took the child to her home. That family friend returned the baby Monday morning.

Police are still investigating the incident.
