HUNTINGTON BEACH, California -- At least an inch of hail and ice pellets blanketed Huntington Beach in Southern California Monday morning according to the National Weather Service.

A lifeguard at the beach told KTLA-TV the white stuff covered the beach area as well as the pier.

The National Weather Service issued a special marine warning due to a cluster of strong thunderstorms centered around Huntington and New port beaches starting at 10:00 a.m.

Video posted to YouTube showed the heavy hail as it fell in Long Beach.
