Police: Man lured 12-year-old girl on Facebook, picked her up from school

KENT -- A 35-year-old man likely faces charges of kidnapping and sex abuse after he befriended a 12-year-old girl on Facebook, picked her up from school and dropped her off hours later at a friend's house following a probable assault, sheriff's deputies say.

On Jan. 30, the suspect drove his van to Meeker Middle School in Renton and picked up the 12-year-old he had messaged over Facebook, King County sheriff's deputies say. Shortly after school was over, the girl's mother called police and reported her child missing when she didn't come home.

The girl was found five hours later in Bremerton at a friend's house and taken to the hospital, deputies said. At the hospital, the girl said the suspect bought her snacks, gave her money and took her to Bremerton in his car. The girl allegedly was in a disturbed state, and declined to answer some questions, deputies said.

Deputies learned the suspect's name and contacted him by posing as a 14-year-old girl. The suspect allegedly promised to buy tablets and phones for the girl if they met up, and described sexually explicit acts he intended to do to the girl.

The suspect agreed to meet at a library in Renton, where detectives arrested him. He was booked at King County Jail for second-degree kidnapping and commercial sex abuse of a minor.

Charges are forthcoming, deputies said.
