Police: Suspected burglar leads officers to 6 stolen cars in getaway attempt

SEATTLE -- A burglary suspect who tried to escape police on a bicycle led officers to six stripped-down stolen cars in South Park.

According to Seattle police, officers responded to the report of two men smashing their way into a garage in the 1000 block of S. Donovan Street around 3:15 p.m. One suspect reportedly rode away on an orange bike and a second suspect fled on foot.

Police said they caught one suspect and followed the "bicycling burglar" into the yard of a home on the 1200 block of S. Cloverdale.

Investigators said they went looking for the getaway bike in the backyard of the home where they discovered a suspected chop shop.

They found six cars missing their license plates and engines. The vehicles had been stolen from Queen Anne, Ballard, Federal Way and Tacoma, police said.

"Major Crimes Task Force detectives joined the investigation at the home, where officers also seized two tow trucks. SPD evidence specialists also recovered a number of fingerprints from the stolen cars, and have identified a possible suspect connected with the chop shop."

Detectives interviewed the two burglary suspects and are continuing to investigate the suspected chop shop.
