West Coast seaports in full operation -- except Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — An arbitrator has determined that longshoremen at the port in Oakland, California, took part in illegal work stoppages that resulted in a shutdown of daytime operations.

Pacific Maritime Association spokesman Steve Getzug says longshoremen took breaks at the same time, among other actions reducing productivity Sunday.

Employers dismissed them for the day and notified an arbitrator.

Getzug says employers have ordered labor for the night shift.

Work across the 29 West Coast seaports had slowed significantly during a months-long contract dispute, which caused huge backups.

A tentative deal struck late Friday allowed workers in Oakland and at ports from San Diego to Seattle to begin clearing their backlogs Saturday night.

The Port of Oakland handled about 10 percent of cargo at West Coast docks in 2013, according to the association.
