No injuries in early morning Kent house fire

KENT, Wash. – No injuries were reported after a fire damaged a home on Kent’s West Hill early Sunday.

Crews were called out to the home, on the 25400 block of 29th Avenue South, around 3:30 a.m. Ryan Montero with the Kent Fire Department said that one of the people living at the home noticed the fire, and soon after a passerby was pounding on the home’s door after seeing the fire to make sure everyone was alert.

It took around 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, but crews were at the home throughout the morning to watch for flare-ups. An investigator pinpointed the garage as where the fire started, but the cause is still undetermined.

Five people, including three adults and two children, were able to get out of the home safely, but one pet did die in the fire. No firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.

Fire damage to the home is estimated at $75,000.
