MILWAUKEE — Police say a 92-year-old Milwaukee-area man panicked and lost control of his vehicle while trying to leave a parking lot, crashing into nine cars.

Security camera footage captured the man trying to leave Mountain’s Piggly Wiggly in the Mayville suburb of Milwaukee Friday, Madison.com reports. Police told Madison.com as the man pulled out of his spot, his foot got stuck on the accelerator, and he lost control of his 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, crashing into nine cars before coming to a stop.

No one was injured in the accident, Madison.com reported. Neither alcohol nor drugs were present.

Police said the man will not be cited, because it was simply an accident. It is unknown if the man will lose his driver’s license.

Seven of the vehicles involved in the crash were legally parked at the time of the crash.

I agree there should be mandatory testing after age 65 AND other restrictions should also apply such as needing another licensed adult in the vehicle anytime someone over the age of 75 is behind the wheel.

“Needing a second licensed driver in the car” is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. What’s the point of driving then? The reason people drive is to get places on their own. Why not just require people to hire someone to run errands for them? Maybe anyone that causes an accident no matter what the age should be required to have a second licensed driver with them for 5 years. That sounds reasonable doesn’t it?

Everyone should be tested periodically, some cannot stay sober enough to pass the test. Some people are tested at 16 then never have to pass another test. Some people can’t stay off their cell phones for more than a minute.

I disagree with mandatory testing based on age. Some of us are more skilled and intelligent than the rest of you and can handle the responsibility of driving regardless of age. You’re falsely blaming age as if it affects everyone equally and it doesn’t. All my relatives who have lived into their 90s kept driving and not one had any accidents. My own driving record is spotless. You’re engaging in ageism rather than accept that, in general, older drivers are safer drivers. Most of you in the Puget Sound area ought to be retrained on how to drive, though, and if YOU want to give up your licenses right now that would be great. Safer streets for the rest of us!
