2 climbers injured in 800-foot slide after anchor points came loose

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say two climbers slid 800 feet or more down Mount Stuart in Washington state when one slipped and the anchor points for both came loose as they tried to reach the top of the 9,415-foot peak.

The two came to rest on a glacier Monday. Rescuers responded to an emergency beacon, and a helicopter picked up the two and flew them to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

The Chelan County sheriff's office says a 28-year-old Seattle man suffered a broken leg and a 29-year-old Bainbridge Island man suffered head and neck injuries.

Mount Stuart is a peak in the Cascade Mountains near Leavenworth, about 80 miles east of Seattle.
