Cop rescues terrified dog from midst of busy freeway, decides to adopt her on way to shelter (PHOTOS)

DALLAS, Texas -- A Dallas Police officer who rescued a frightened dog from the middle of a busy freeway may just have fallen in love with the pup.

Dallas Animal Services posted about the dramatic rescue on its Facebook page Friday.

“Officer Rogers answered a call about a dog huddled on the shoulder in the fast lane of I-35 north,” wrote animal services. “He called us for help, but before our officers could get there, she crawled all the way to Officer Rogers car and safety.”

Officer Rogers then scooped up the pooch and headed toward the shelter. But first he stopped to pick up a few doggie treats.

“By the time they got here, she was clearly smitten and didn't want to leave her handsome hero,” wrote animal services.

The officer told staffers he had named her Laurel and that if no other owner came forward be wanted to adopt her.
