BREAKING: Italian court sentences Costa Concordia captain

GROSSETO, Italy --- Disgraced cruise ship captain Francesco Schettino was sentenced to 16 years in jail by an Italian judge.

Thirty-two people were killed in 2012 when the Costa Concordia ran aground off the island of Giglio.

CNN reported Schettino was found guilty on manslaughter and other charges related to the shipwreck.

Italian prosecutors had argued that Schettino should be locked away for 26 years, but he continued to deny the charges against him throughout the trial.
