Dresses or dinosaurs, ruffles or robots? Two mompreneurs say girls shouldn't have to choose!

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A couple of moms went looking for dresses for their daughters featuring trucks, trains and dinosaurs.

Surprise, they couldn’t find any.

But that didn’t stop Rebecca Melsky and Eva St. Clair. The two women decided to make their own dresses and ‘Princess Awesome’ was born.

“Girls shouldn’t have to decide between dresses and dinosaurs or ruffles and robots,” write the women on their website. “We’re a different kind of girly.”

After making the dresses in their basement for a while, Melsky and St. Clair say they started getting interest from other parents looking for options for their daughters.

So they started selling dresses online and their business grew by leaps and bounds.

“After selling out of 75% of our handmade original styles in six weeks and selling out repeatedly online for the last year, we can no longer keep up with demand as an in-house shop,” wrote the moms. “ It is time to move Princess Awesome into factory production! “

The pair decided it is time to go big or go home and they turned to crowdfunding site kickstarter to try and raise $35,000.

Within just a few days they had raised more than $60,000.

Which means the woman’s first project gets a green light.

“We are starting with our play dress and skirted infant snapsuit in three styles,” wrote the moms. “ The play dresses will be available in sizes 2T - 8, and the snapsuits in sizes 3-18 months. “

The design options will include a dinosaur print, a pirate print and their most popular print to date the pi symbol.

If the women reach $65,000 in pledges they say they’ll offer a fourth design.

“Atomic elements with their orbital shells!  This style is paired with an apple green top or snapsuit”
