Think rain here is bad? Eastern Washington hit with dirty rain

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Residents of Eastern Washington are reporting rainfall that contained milky-colored or light gray dirt.

The National Weather Service is stumped about the origin of the dirty rain.

The Weather Service office in Spokane started receiving calls from across the region on Friday morning asking about the source of the dirt, which coated vehicles that were parked outside.

The Weather Service said Friday's rainstorm originated in the subtropics of the Pacific Ocean and could have passed through some dust or volcanic ash as it moved west.
