Taken near Seabeck on Hood Canal

SEABECK, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County dive team used sonar and robotic vehicles Wednesday to search for the wreckage of a plane that crashed Monday into Hood Canal near Seabeck.

The Kitsap Sun reports the plane sank in several hundred feet of water and is too deep for divers and likely won’t be recovered.

Searchers hope to take video of the wreckage that could help the National Transportation Safety Board determine the cause of the crash. Witnesses said it appeared to break up in the air.

The pilot who apparently was killed has not been officially identified. A missing single-engine plane that took off from the Tacoma Narrows Airport was registered to a Fox Island man.
