Lawyer: Record producer 'Suge' Knight was behind wheel of car that killed 1, injured 1

COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — A lawyer for Marion "Suge" Knight says the Death Row Records founder was at the wheel of a car that struck two men, killing one, in a Los Angeles suburb.

Police are investigating and are calling Knight a "person of interest."

Sheriff's homicide Lt. John Corina says a red pickup truck backed into and then drove forward over the men shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday before taking off. A 59-year-old died.

Attorney James Blatt tells KABC-TV (http://bit.ly/1CEZg6W) that Knight says he was trying to flee after he was attacked and that the dead man was a friend.

The lieutenant says Knight was seen driving a red pickup when he got into an argument nearby about 20 minutes earlier.

He also says a lawyer is arranging to have Knight turn himself in.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says two men were taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other's condition is unknown.
