Mason County sheriff's deputy cleared in fatal shooting

SHELTON, Wash. (AP) — The Mason County sheriff's office says a review of a fatal shooting on Jan. 2 has cleared a deputy.

The sheriff's office says two deputies responded to a report of a suicide attempt thinking the man was critically wounded. Instead they found a man with a minor wound and a large caliber hand gun.

When he threatened to shoot a deputy, 53-year-old Tim Elliott was shot.

A review by a regional investigation team and prosecutors determined Sgt. Trevor Severance did not violate any state law.
