WSP: Pickup hits, kills bicyclist near Blaine; suspect turns himself in hours later

BLAINE, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says a small white pickup struck and killed a bicyclist on Thursday evening near the Blaine, Washington, border crossing with Canada.

The Bellingham Herald reports the truck drove off but about three hours later, the State Patrol says a 26-year-old Blaine man walked up to a state Transportation Department worker at the scene and said he needed to turn himself in. The man said the truck was at his house.

Trooper Mark Francis says the collision happened at an intersection where the truck had a green light.

The victim was a 53-year-old Blaine man whose name was not immediately released. Francis says the bicyclist was wearing dark clothes and didn't have a helmet.
