Man pleads guilty to beating his girlfriend with 2-week-old puppy

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A man will spend six months in jail after pleading guilty to using a 2-week-old puppy as a weapon to assault his girlfriend, FOX 17 reports.

Police said the puppy was killed during the assault.

According to FOX 17, police were called in November to reports of Timothy Tucker assaulting his girlfriend at their Michigan home. Tucker was arrested after the puppy was found dead, and his girlfriend assaulted, police said.

Charges of animal cruelty were dropped as part of a plea deal for felony assault, Tucker said.

Tucker has a lengthy criminal record, FOX 17 reports, including multiple charges of domestic violence, writing fake checks and fleeing law enforcement.

The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office said after being released from jail, Tucker will be placed in the Swift and Sure Sanctions Program, which is essentially a more strict probation that will keep a close eye on this habitual offender.

“What I would call an enhanced probation program. It requires that there be more frequent contacts, more intense supervision of the person that’s on probation,” said Prosecutor Jeff Getting.
