Salem, OR (KPTV) — A bizarre incident happened earlier this month when a man was attacked by an owl in Salem.

Ron Jaecks said he was out for his morning run around Bush’s Pasture Park when something hit him on the top of his head.

“I feel an electric feeling go down my spine, and all of the sudden my stocking is ripped off like a vortex,” Jaecks said. “Then I looked up and saw a huge wingspan flying away, and the first thing I thought of was a big bat.”

After Jaecks made it home, he called his friend Dave Craig, who works in the biology department at Willamette University.

Craig said he believes Jaecks was attacked by a Great Horned owl.

“It is really rare for owls to attack,” said Craig.

Jaecks wasn’t seriously hurt in the attack. He has some puncture wounds to his head.
