SPD: Man stabbed during Interbay bar fight

SEATTLE – An attempt to stop a woman from being harassed ended with one man being stabbed and bar patrons stopping the suspect from getting away.

Seattle Police spokesperson Det. Patrick Michaud said that the incident happened at a bar in Interbay around 10:30 p.m. A man saw another harassing a woman at the bar, on the 3400 block of Gilman Avenue W., when he tried to intervene. The suspect then hit the man in the chest.

The victim at first thought he had been punched, Michaud said. But then he saw blood coming from a wound on his chest and realized he had been stabbed.

The suspect tried running from the bar by jumping over a wall, but landed in an awkward manner and broke an ankle. He still tried to get to a waiting car, driven by the suspect’s wife, but patrons of the bar caught up with him. They pulled him away from the car and held him until police arrived.

Medics took the man who was stabbed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Those who caught the suspect for minor cuts on their hands, but all got treatment at the scene. The suspect was taken to a hospital to have his broken ankle treated, and will be booked into the King County Jail once he is released.
