The Big Unit to enter the Hall of Fame wearing Diamondbacks cap

COOPERSTOWN, Ny -- Randy Johnson will go into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the museum announced Friday.

Speculation surrounded whether or not Johnson would go in as a Diamondback or a Seattle Mariner.

According to AZCentral.com, that speculation was largely put to rest last week when Johnson accepted a special assistant position with the Arizona team.

On Friday, Johnson released a statement saying he would have the Diamondbacks logo on his cap in the Hall of Fame, AZCentral.com reported.

"After reflecting the last week and conferring with the Hall of Fame, we've come to the decision that the Diamondbacks logo on my Hall of Fame plaque makes the most sense," Johnson said in a statement released by the museum. "I want to express my most sincere thanks to all the teams I played for – Montreal, Seattle, Houston, the New York Yankees and San Francisco – and particularly all of the fans for supporting me. I'm very humbled by this honor."

Johnson, drafted in 1985 with the Montreal Expos, started his career with the Mariners in 1989. During his 10 seasons with the team, Johnson collected a Cy Young, an ERA title and made five All-Star Game appearances. Johnson went on to win a World Series and four other Cy Young Awards with the Arizona Diamondbacks over eight seasons.

He finished his 22-year career with 4,875 strikeouts, second only to Nolan Ryan.
