Pick up prostitutes? Your car will be towed

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane City Council passed an ordinance Monday night to fight prostitution.

The ordinance gives police authority to impound and tow away the cars of people who pick up prostitutes.

KXLY reports the new ordinance goes into effect next month.

People who spoke out in support of the measure said Spokane, specifically East Sprague, needs to be cleaned up, KXLY reports. Targeting a Jon will send the message that Spokane will not accept prostitution.

"It would have been a great thing when the serial killer Yates was around," one man said, KXLY reported.

50 percent of the impound fee would go to help victims of sex trafficking.
