Veterans' advocate attacked near CenturyLink: 'He looks at me ... all of a sudden he just lunged at me'

SEATTLE -- A man known for his work raising awareness about military veterans and their families was assaulted Saturday night near CenturyLink Field, police said Monday.

According to the police, the victim, Alvin Eugene, was taking a break when he somehow drew the ire of a man riding by in a pedicab to the game. The suspect and a woman with him in the pedicab threw food at Eugene and his wife.

When that happened, the pedicab driver kicked the rider and his wife out of the pedicab. That's when the man approached Eugene and punched him in the face before fleeing.

Now, Eugene is hoping for the public's help to catch the man who attacked him.

Eugene said of the attacker, "He looks at me and all of a sudden he just lunged at me. He hits me. I go down. I was on the ground -- the first thing I thought of was, Oh my gosh, I'm dead."

"I have several fractures broken bones in my face. I'm gonna need metal plates and bolts and screws. And my jaw from here over, I can't feel anything at all," he said.

"I did absolutely nothing to him -- nothing. This is my first time ever meeting him before, I don't even know his name."

The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5-foot-10, 260 pounds and he was wearing a light gray Seahawks jersey.

If you can help police find the suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
