Toddler found left alone in frigid car; dad says he forgot where he parked

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Police believe a toddler was left alone in a car for hours in near-freezing temperatures in Spokane.

The boy was found Tuesday after a service station clerk called police. The father had stopped in the station and mentioned he forgot where he parked his car with his son inside.

Officers found the car near Comstock Park. It was 33 degrees outside. The boy was shivering.

The Spokesman-Review reports he was treated at a hospital and placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The father, 51-year-old Charles B. Fife of Spokane, was arrested for investigation of child abandonment. He appeared in court Wednesday and was held on $2,500 bail.
