TACOMA -- Sheriff's deputies are investigating a murder and attempted suicide after a man called police to say he strangled his wife at their home.

Pierce County sheriff's deputies say the suspect called 911 around 9 a.m Thursday to say he just strangled his wife at a residence in the 10400 block of Sheridan Avenue South in Tacoma.

When deputies arrived, the man allegedly brandished a knife and slit his throat before locking himself in a bathroom. Deputies managed to break down the bathroom door and give the man medical care, law enforcement said.
