Police arrest Idaho mom after finding loaded gun where kids could access it

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Police in Idaho Falls arrested a 29-year-old mother accused of leaving a loaded gun where her two small children could access it.

The Idaho State Journal reports that the arrest of Kathleen Allen on Thursday came days after a toddler shot and killed his mother while shopping in a Walmart in northern Idaho.

A police report says officers went to the home after receiving reports that two young children were living in unclean conditions with access to a loaded gun.

Police say a .40-caliber pistol was easily accessible to a 4-year-old child and a baby living in the home. Authorities say the mother was also found in possession of syringes and methamphetamine.

She faces a felony charge of injury to a child.
