Severe weather shelters open as temps dip into 20s

SEATTLE -- With temperatures dropping below 25 degrees overnight, the City of Seattle Human Services Department will open its emergency cold weather shelter at Seattle Center.

From December 29th through January 1st, the Severe Weather Shelter at the Seattle Center Rainer Room will be open to adult men and women over the age of 18. The shelter is open from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Referrals are not needed.

The Rainier Room is located at 305 Harrison Street, just north of Key Arena.

A severe weather shelter is also slated to open Monday and Tuesday night in Renton. The shelter is located at Renton Harambee Center, 316 South 3rd St. in downtown Renton. Check-in and registration begins at 8:30 p.m. The shelter will close each day at 8 a.m., and all must vacate.
