Grinch steals Christmas decorations from Marysville neighborhood

MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- One neighborhood has gone almost completely dark for the holidays this year.

People steal holiday decorations every year, but neighbors in Marysville are more concerned about what it is really stealing from the community.

"You pay money for them, you're excited about putting them out, and then someone takes them," said Lori Pietzsch whose decorations were stolen. "Kind of just makes you a little sad before Christmas."

Each year, Lori's home is the beacon of the block -- celebrating the season of lights.

"She's providing this for our little community right here, and again they're stealing it from her and stealing it further from us," said neighbor Shannon Barker.

But this year, Lori and her neighbors say a Grinch has tried to spoil their spirit. She's had a baby Jesus figurine for 15 years and finally decided to put it on display this year. And it was stolen.

Neighbors say many around the neighborhood choose not to decorate out of fear that their holiday cheer will be stolen or destroyed.

"Now that we have kids I still wouldn't even put the stuff up for them to see because it would just go away, knocked over, toilet papered, spray painted, anything," Shannon said.
